Bible Reading: Psalm 34:1-10
Friday 26 April 2024 © The Upper Room.

Many people believe that David wrote Psalm 34 after he met the king of Gath. We can read this story in 1 Samuel 21:10-15.

At that time, David was running away from King Saul who was trying to kill him. David went to Gath and saw the king. But David was afraid that the king and his officers would hurt him, so “while David was with them, he acted like a crazy man” (1 Samuel 21:13a). Because David acted crazy, the king sent him away.

God protected David, and the king did not harm him. Maybe that is why David wrote Psalm 34.

In this psalm David praises God for taking care of him. In verse 7 David says, “The Lord’s angel builds a camp around his followers, and he protects them.”

In verse 8 David encourages us to depend on God and His protection. Then in verse 22 David says, “The Lord saves his servants. All who go to him for protection will escape punishment.” Look to God for protection today! —IMJ

Psalm 34:8 “Give the Lord a chance to show you how good he is. Great blessings belong to those who depend on him!”

PRAYER: Father, thank You for taking care of us and protecting us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
