BEARING FRUIT

A few weeks ago, my pastor preached about the fruitful tree of John 15.  “Even when the tree bears much fruit, it never enjoys any of it,” he said.  “The fruit is produced to be enjoyed by other living things, human or animal, that eat from the tree.”  I really like fruit, especially grapes, melons, apples, and oranges.  But after hearing this sermon, whenever I eat fruit, I remember the fruitful tree and savour the taste even more.

In a similar way, God wants our lives to bear much fruit so we can be a blessing to others.  To be fruitful, we must always remain in Jesus.  “Remain in me,” he said, “as I also remain in you.  No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine.  Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me” (John 15:4, NIV).
We remain in Jesus by reading and meditating on God’s word each day and putting it into practice. When we bear much fruit, we can be a blessing to others.  When we become a blessing to others, we bring glory to God.

Prayer: Dear God, help us to remain in you and your love so that we can bear much fruit.  May we be a blessing to others and glorify your name. Amen.
