Do You Not Care?

Prior to elections in Kenya in 2017, we heard numerous appeals for a peaceful voting experience.  Even as the appeals for peace were being made, the fear of violence simmered deep within the voting citizens.  Those fears were well-founded as our country had experienced unprecedented electoral violence just a decade earlier.

As I thought of the fear we were experiencing, I remembered the disciples in the boat with Jesus, who were consumed with the fear of drowning in the sea.  In the middle of a storm, they came to him, woke him up from sleep, and said, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”  Jesus woke up, rebuked the storm, and restored the disciples’ peace.  Jesus’ actions reminded them and us that when we trust in Jesus, he will be with us through any circumstances.  All we are required to do as children of the Most High God is to trust in God and God’s word and live in obedience to it.  “For with God nothing shall be impossible”.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the peace you bring today.  We look to you for help always.  In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit we pray. Amen.
