Our gifts

I don’t remember how old I was, but it was the first year I shopped for Christmas gifts on my own. My parents gave me some money and let me walk to some shops close to our house. I walked into a gift shop and laid my coins on the counter. The assistant helped me pick out a cos- tume-jewellery brooch and a purple scarf for my mother. That Christ- mas, for the first time, I was as eager to see my mother open her gift as I was to open my own gifts.

Looking back, I am thankful for the assistant who spent so much time helping me. I have also had this thought: ‘I could give my mother nothing that hadn’t been given to me.’ She certainly could have bought far nicer things for herself. Nevertheless, I think she was highly pleased to receive my gift.

In the same way, we can give nothing to God that didn’t come from him in the first place. All our possessions, all our power, all our talents are gifts from God. Nevertheless, I believe that he is pleased by what we give.

Prayer: O God, thank you for all the gifts you have given us. Thank you for allowing us to offer something in return. Amen

BSL devotions is such a fantastic resource, thank you so much for starting it up and developing the site. I am a Christian hearing person who works with deaf people and have loved the opportunity to develop my understanding of and use of christian signs through the videos. It would be great to know who all the sign interpreters are as well as those who write the devotional content. Perhaps as the website grows in the future, UK deaf and hearing Christians can contribute to the devotion content. Many thanks and blessings. Please keep the site going! HJ
