One Sunday during the sermon, our minister illustrated how hard it is to walk in someone else’s shoes. We all had a good laugh as the pastor tried to walk in children’s shoes and the children in the congregation tried to wear adult-sized shoes.

As I listened, it occurred to me that I often struggle to ‘fill the shoes’ the Lord is asking me to wear. Sometimes I do not feel capable or qualified to take on a new task or responsibility. But then I recall God’s response to Moses in today’s reading, when Moses complained that he was slow of speech and did not want to be a leader. I take comfort, trusting that if I am willing to follow God’s call, then he will help me to fill  those shoes.

At other times I hesitate because I don’t want to give up something I enjoy doing in order to serve God. But then I reflect on the sacrifice Jesus made for us, and I’m humbled. I know that regardless of my shortcomings, the Lord is always there, ready and waiting for me to follow.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding us that we can serve you in new and unique ways. Open our eyes and hearts to serve you better each day. Amen
