Made Clean

In our busy home, laundry tends to pile up, and in a rush to finish the washing I tend to omit important steps in the cleaning process—like pre-treatment of stains. I cross my fingers in the hope that the stains will simply disappear during the washing process. It’s most frustrating when some persistent ones remain and I have to put the item of clothing back in the wash.

In a similar way, the stains in my soul may be difficult to deal with. How often do I simply brush off my transgressions? I forget about the unkind words that have left my mouth or the overdue apology. Maybe I have hurt someone badly and simply swept the incident under the carpet. Sometimes my sin may be more serious, seemingly unforgivable. At these times, my relationship with God is affected.

But there is hope. No matter what our personal blemishes are, we can have confidence that ours is a God of amazing grace. Jesus’ death on the cross offers us the opportunity to come clean and to be forgiven. We can start again with a spotless new life and a wholesome relationship with our heavenly Father.

Prayer: Thank you, merciful God, that we are able to come before you, confess our sins, and receive forgiveness. Thank you for the new and clean life that you offer to each of us. Amen
