Holy Conversation
Author: Galina Samson (Voronezh, Russia)
In the evening, when the sun is setting and the tasks of the day are done, I have a sense of joyful anticipation. I await a phone call from my sister in Christ, Olga, and we begin our daily evening prayer on the telephone.
When I became a believer, I could not see the point of prayer.
Why pray, I thought, if God is all-knowing and knows our thoughts before we do? God will do what is best. I reasoned that I am only human and may ask for the wrong thing.
Gradually, however, I began to feel the need to pray. And when I was able to pray with another person, prayer became a necessity. I stopped asking myself why I should pray to an all-knowing God. I simply needed that evening conversation with the Lord.
Olga and I have been praying together for five years now.
Our friends and family know about our prayer time and often ask us to pray for one situation or another. And we do pray, understanding that God has given us the privilege to address ourselves directly to him.
Jesus said, ‘Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.’
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you that we can always converse with you through prayer. Amen
