Trusting the Driver

When I am a passenger in a car, I have noticed that my behaviour varies according to who the driver is. I have felt the need to direct each turn, to tell the driver when the light turns green and even to push my feet to the floor to ‘assist’ in braking thecar.
My compulsion to direct the driver depends on my level of trust. For example, it is very easy to have complete trust in my wife – who can drive any vehicle in any circumstance and capably navigate new cities. Therefore I can totally relax and enjoy the drive whenever she is at the wheel.
It troubles me that I do not always have equal or greater trust in God, my omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent Creator, Saviour and Lord. Over the years, I have been impatient with God and many times have wanted to step on the accelerator or attempt to turn too soon. I have also put on the brake when it was obvious that God wanted me to go.
God is greater and more trustworthy than any human being in every situation. Knowing this, we can resist leaning on our own understanding and instead trust and submit to God and enjoy the ride.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to remember your continual reassurances to trust you and enjoy the ride. Amen
