Meaningful Work

After my graduation, I had difficulty finding a job. I went to a town in North Sumatra, but the job there did not work out; so I tried another town. 

I sent out application after application, searching for a decent job. I had hoped for an offer from one place in particular, but there was no answer from them. One month earlier, the college I had graduated from had called me several times asking if I wanted to work there. I had not been eager to accept the offer because the salary was quite small. 

All this time, I had continued to pray to God to give me a decent job. But I had forgotten to listen for where the Lord was calling me to work. I forgot that longing for God means obeying when he sends me to a place where I can serve. 

Now I am working to help the college’s office staff. I firmly believe that the Lord provided a place and work for me, and that the place God chose is the best. Sometimes we imagine a wonderful and remarkable job, but the word of God says, ‘Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails’. When we listen for God’s leading, he can use us to bless others so that we and they can experience his love in new ways.
