Eight years ago when I faced the decision of whether to leave a good job in order to care for my children full time, God spoke to me through today’s quoted verse. God cared for the people of Israel in a very practical way – their sandals did not wear out! This helped me to believe that God cares about the details of our lives and provides for them. It gave me the courage to leave work and have faith that he would look after our family. It was not always easy, but God looked after us month by month, year by year.
Recently our circumstances changed, and I began to worry. Is it time for me to go back to work? How can I find a job that will allow me to earn yet still be able to care for our boys? We prayed, and God answered in a wonderfully practical way. Someone at church – who was unaware of our situation – approached me and asked if I would be interested in a job where she worked. I could hardly believe it when I found out that the job was exactly what I needed in terms of working hours and flexibility. I accepted the job with a heart full of gratitude. We are meeting all of our family’s needs, and I have learned once again to trust our God who leads us and cares for us.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for being our great provider. Help us to trust that you will care for us all our lives. Amen
