Carrying God's Word

Several years ago, someone brought me a Bible from another city. I really loved it because it was small, light and easy to carry with me.

However, often after church or a small group meeting, I have forgotten to take my Bible out of my bag so that when I needed it I couldn’t immediately remember where it was.

Recently I acquired a new Bible. It is a new translation, and it is large and heavy. Whenever I carry this Bible with me, I am constantly thinking how heavy it is! But at the same time, this new, larger Bible never lets me forget about the word of God.

The Bible in my bag, be it tiny or large, reminds me that following God’s word is not always easy.

But while it can be difficult to obey God’s word, when I read and reflect on it with passion to obey it, my life is filled with the joy and abundance that Jesus promised us.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach us each day to reflect on your word and to do it. As Jesus taught us, we pray, ‘Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.’
