Citizenship
Author: Benjamin D. Christie (Pennsylvania, USA)
My family and I came to the United States from India in 2006. After five years, we inquired about US citizenship. We learned that we had to pay fees, to have our fingerprints taken and to answer 100 questions in an official interview.
My wife and I found it difficult to prepare for the interview because we had no spare time—what with full-time jobs, looking after the house and reading and meditating on the Bible.
Only by God’s grace did we obtain citizenship.
This experience helped me to see that we are only sojourners on this earth and that our real citizenship is in heaven. For that, we do not have to pay fees because we are invited by God’s grace to be citizens of heaven.
In many countries, when children are born they automatically become citizens of the country of their birth.
However, to be a citizen of heaven a person need only accept Jesus’ invitation—be born again by repentance and confession in the name of Jesus.
It is never too late to prepare ourselves for citizenship of heaven.
Prayer: Holy and righteous heavenly Father, thank you for inviting us to be citizens in your heavenly kingdom. Amen
