Twenty years ago, I went on my first short-term mission trip. I was a very young Christian then. Each of us on the team was asked to share a message at the end of the day to encourage one another.

When it was my turn, I felt ill-equipped and lacking. I asked the Holy Spirit to guide me to a passage I could share.

God led me to the simple passage where Jesus fed the multitudes. All he needed was five loaves and two fish and that was enough to satisfy the crowd of 5000.

That miracle spoke to me directly. We have nothing much to offer. We come as we are, sometimes lost, sometimes discouraged, and sometimes having little faith. But as long as we are willing to give all that we have, God will do the rest.

As long as we are willing to surrender them completely, he will multiply what faith and talents we have to equip us with more than we need to bless those around us.

Twenty years later, I’m still holding on to that truth. What a mighty and wonderful God we serve!

Prayer: Dear Abba Father, increase our faith and bless the works of our hands so that we can be your light and salt in this world. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
