Recently our fourth child was born. Watching babies grow is amazing. Soon after birth, they begin to coo and smile. Then they gain head movement and begin rolling over.
Suddenly, they begin to crawl and walk. However, immediately after being born, they are hungry. Instinctively, they cry, craving milk to satisfy their hunger. Our new little girl cries for milk throughout the day.
As a result, she grows and grows. If she goes for a long period in the day without nursing, my wife becomes concerned that she may be ill. Healthy babies hunger.
In 1 Peter 2:2 we read, ‘As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.’ Just as newborn babies crave milk, new believers crave the word of God.
New believers have an innate hunger for the word; and through the word, they grow and become mature followers of Christ. We can be encouraged by new believers’ hunger for God’s word. Healthy followers of Christ hunger for the word.
Prayer: Dear God, we pray that a hunger for your word will permeate the lives of your people. May we hunger for you and seek you whole-heartedly. We pray for new believers. Satisfy their longings with the sincere milk of your word. Amen
