In the Footsteps Of Jesus

My dad was surefooted as a mountain goat.  I never saw him stumble.  As a boy, I would try to step in his steps when we walked, though it was difficult because of his long stride.  If we were in the woods, down at the lake, or working, I knew that I was less likely to step on a snake, twist my ankle in a hole, or stumble if I walked in his steps.

I have met someone else who is even more surefooted than my dad ever was.  He walks on a narrow path, but his steps are always on solid, level ground.  I am talking about the footsteps of Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life.  My slips and falls have been greatly reduced since I started following in his footsteps.  His paths are straight and always well lit.  Actually, his footsteps are clearly seen in scripture for all to see and follow.  His invitation is to the whole world: “Come, follow me.”.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank you for making your path, the path of life, clear for all to see.  As you taught us we pray, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us today our daily bread.  Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one”.  Amen.
