On my 60th birthday, I sent my sister an email that said, ‘I’m healthy, happy, married to a great man and I own a business caring for animals. Praise God, my dreams have come true!’
My birthday wasn’t always a cause for celebration. On my 40th birthday, I was depressed, lived alone, working at two jobs and struggling with money worries. When I contemplated my future, it brought fears of relentless struggles with loneliness and hopelessness. I did not celebrate on my 40th birthday. I felt only deep sadness.
My fears and sadness were transformed into hopefulness several months later when I began attending church. I went to seek God’s solace and I received his mercy and grace. I made Christian friends. I met my husband while serving on a mission-ministry team. And I launched a successful pet-care business. God can deliver us from the fears that smother our hope, but his blessings require our participation. Psalm 34:8 invites us to ‘Taste and see that the Lord is good’. Seeking God can transform our lives.
Prayer: God of goodness and grace, thank you for delivering us from our fears. Amen
Thought for the day: God can transform my sadness into hope.
