God's word

Bible Reading: Read Psalm 119:9-16

A friend told me that he never left the house without his keys, his phone and his Bible. All three were essential bits of equipment to him.

I have a mobile phone and I carry it with me all the time. I can keep in touch with family and friends, but I can also use it to keep in touch with God. How? Because the whole Bible is on my phone! It’s an always available resource. But even without the Bible on a phone, we can still keep God’s word, as the psalmist says, in our hearts. We can memorise Bible verses and keep them with us in that way. It means that the Bible is always with us in all circumstances, so that we have God’s word to encourage and challenge us, or to share with others.

If everything else was taken away from us (think of Job) nobody can ever take God’s word from our hearts. We might lose our keys, our phone or our Bible in a book form, but we still have God’s word with us. I find that a great comfort.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for giving us the Bible, and that you speak to us through it. Help us to learn the verses we need to live closely with you each day. Amen
