We will do it

In the weekly prayer meeting at our church, one man in the group often closes his prayer with the words, ‘Please tell us what to do, and we will do it.’ Those words remind me of what David told his son Solo- mon – that the Lord had chosen Solomon to build the temple. With that responsibility there came also this admonition from David: ‘Be strong and do the work.’

David told his son to ‘acknowledge the God of your father’ and to consider carefully what it means that ‘the Lord has chosen you’. Since the Lord searches the heart and understands every motive, Solomon knew that he had an awesome responsibility.

But we also have responsibilities that God has given us. If we are going to ask God to guide our life, then we had better be prepared to do whatever he calls us to do ‘with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind’. My friend has the right idea: First we find out what God wants us to do – then we do it.

Prayer: Dear Father, give us wholehearted devotion and willing minds to serve where, when and how you call us. Amen
