During a hurricane several years ago, our home was flooded. After that experience, and because we live on a tidal creek, we decided to raise our house to prevent damage from any future storms. Once the house was lifted, we had to have a new foundation built. This took so long that we had to find another place to live for over two years while we waited for our house to be lifted and renovated.

During that stressful time, I became depressed and found it hard to get through each day. Then I started reading my study Bible and began to develop a deep and abiding relationship with Jesus. Not only did my house get a new foundation, but I began to build my life upon the solid foundation of Christ’s teaching.

As believers, we are all a part of the same structure, the Church, and its chief cornerstone is Jesus Christ. The cornerstone of a foundation connects the walls and bears the weight of the building on itself –  holding together the entire structure. That’s what Jesus did when he died on the cross for us. He bore the weight of our sins, and now he connects us all by dwelling in us through the Holy Spirit. Our faith is built on Jesus Christ, and we can get through each day knowing that he and his love are the foundation for our lives.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for bearing the weight of our sins and lifting us up when we are in despair. Amen
