That peaceful hour

Recently I read a report claiming that getting up an hour early, taking things slowly, and having a good breakfast is the best way to begin the day. Starting the day in a rush can cause stress levels to rise.

I find that spending time with God in the morning sets me right for the rest of the day. As the day proceeds, other demands rush in. Family needs surface, and my mind can become cluttered. Spending time in quiet contemplation, reading God’s word and praying helps us to set the tone for the hours that follow. We can talk to God about any decisions we know we will be facing that day and then have time to wait  for his response and guidance. We can pray for people who are weighing heavily on our hearts. Above all, we can spend time in thanksgiving and praise. No matter when it occurs in the day, a peaceful hour can be invaluable to our Christian life and spiritual growth.

Prayer: O timeless God, thank you that our days can begin with you, continue with you and end with you. Amen
