A joyful heart

Since I have no car or motorbike, I often walk 30 minutes to church. One day, one of my friends said, ‘The distance is so far; don’t you get tired?’ With a smile, I answered him, ‘No, because I do not walk alone. My sister is with me, and we walk with joy.’  Our conversation reminded me   of when Jesus would have to walk from one place to another to teach and serve large crowds. He didn’t let the long distances discourage him from serving with joy. When we do all things with a joyful heart of faith, we will have enough strength even when what we do is very difficult.

Because my sister and I have that same joy, we are happy and enjoy every step of our walk. No matter what trials God’s people face, we never tire of living the Christian life because we know that Jesus is walking with us and will never forsake  us.

Prayer: Thank you, God, for giving us strength. Help us to face every trial with joyful hearts because we know that you are always with us. As Jesus taught us, we pray, ‘Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen’
