Spiritual Exercise

At the age of 51, I decided to buy a bicycle. I had always loved cycling but had not been on a bike for more than 20 years. My only reservation was that I had experienced a few knee problems, and I was concerned that bike riding might make things worse. After a month of regular cycling, however, my knees were better than they had been in years. The exercise had strengthened the muscles so that my knees were better supported and I was less prone to injury.

Just as physical exercise helps strengthen our bodies, spiritual exercise can strengthen our spiritual muscles. Bible study, prayer and Christian fellowship are a great start, but we also need to exercise our faith in other ways. This may mean applying a biblical truth to a specific situation, such as giving food to a needy neighbour. It could mean being obedient when God calls us to a certain task or ministry, even though we feel ill-equipped for that role. When we exercise our faith, our spirits will be strengthened as we see God work in us and through us. When we trust him to give us strength, we’ll be amazed at the results.

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help us to give as much attention to our spiritual health as our physical health so that we can serve you with all that we are. Amen

Fantastic! I’m so thrilled by God’s goodness that He has brought about such a wonderful way of communicating His love and Gospel to Deaf people. I’m convinced God will use it to His glory and that it will be an effective means of nurturing Deaf Christians for whom church and the Bible is often difficult. You can be assured of my prayers in asking our Father to use these means to reach Deaf people who would never dream of entering a church building. KS
