Last month I helped my grandmother at a summer camp where she was a teacher. One day, three young campers were involved in an argument. One of the girls was insulting the other two. Following the argument, the girls did not speak to each other. But after a while, the girl who insulted the others admitted her guilt and apologised to the other girls. They embraced and carried on as before.

After observing that incident, I gained a new perspective on forgiveness. At times we become angry with our neighbour and tempers flare. But at the end of the day, it is right to swallow our pride and ask for forgiveness. God grants us forgiveness every day. How can we withhold forgiveness from one another?

Prayer: Eternal Father, we are grateful for your mercy. Help us to show mercy to our neighbour as we pray, ‘Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.’* Amen
