Our world changed dramatically with the invention of computers. They have revolutionised how we work and how we play. They are in our cars, toys, appliances, aeroplanes, home security systems and phones. For computers to function, they need detailed instructions: a blueprint called a computer program. A well-crafted computer program enables the device to perform specific tasks successfully.

I think the Bible acts like a computer program in our minds and hearts, enabling us to live faithfully. When we read and think about scripture, the Holy Spirit begins to enlighten us. As we spend time soaking in God’s truth, it begins to transform us, enabling us to understand and obey God’s word. If we are meditating on a scripture that highlights God’s love, for instance, the Holy Spirit can help us to comprehend the goodness of the Lord and to treat others with kindness. When we choose to make God’s word our focus, we can be programmed for leading fulfilling spiritual lives.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for scripture. Give us understanding and help us to put your word into practice. Amen
