Let Them Go

While on an early morning walk, I felt a gentle breeze. Ahead I noticed hundreds of leaves falling from the nearby trees. At first my heart sank when I thought about the return of winter with its ice and cold temperatures. But as I watched the reds, oranges and yellows circle in the air and drift down, I sensed a gentle reminder. ‘Let the burdens go. Make room for what I have planned for you.’

The trees drop their leaves in autumn, making room for the new spring buds. In the same way, I can let go of my burdens, troubles and cares to make room for the fresh blessings God has in store for me. I can place those cares into his hands. When I thought of these assurances that day, my steps became lighter and my heart was filled with peace. We can have that same peace—from the same source—every day.

Prayer: Dear Father, help us to give you all of our cares and troubles to make room for the new life that you offer. We pray as Jesus taught us, saying, ‘Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.’ Amen
