Guarantee

When you buy a loaf of bread, you might get a receipt, but not a guarantee. If you buy a washing machine, TV or car, you hope to get both.
What happens if you decide to ‘buy into’ Jesus? Is there a guarantee that comes with him? God loves us so much that he gave Jesus as a gift. We don’t have to ‘buy into’ Jesus; indeed, we can’t. It was Jesus who ‘bought’ us. And the price was his death on the cross. He bought us freedom from our wrongdoing, and in accepting God’s gift we are reconciled to him through Jesus.
Where is the guarantee that this is for real? The resurrection of Jesus is one guarantee—when he defeated sin and death. The second guarantee is the Holy Spirit, whom Paul writes about to the Ephesians. The guarantee comes with a promise, giving us assurance.
Whether we are starting to ask about the Christian faith, or we have already begun our walk of faith with Jesus, we are all learners. We move forward together, aware of our weaknesses and limited understanding, but with the assurance of God’s loving presence to encourage us.
Prayer: Thank you, God, for our Saviour Jesus Christ, and for the comforting presence of the Spirit in our lives. Amen
