God's Presence Brings Joy

Today’s technology blesses us as long-distance grandparents. My husband and I delight in conversations with our young grandchildren using computers and smart phones. During a live-screen computer visit, we can read picture books together, watch as they get their hair shampooed, laugh as they play games and even share in bedtime prayers.

Enjoying these interactions with our grandchildren makes me think about how much more God enjoys interacting with us. When we read and reflect on scripture, take part in Christian fellowship, serve those in need and pray regularly, we draw near to God. More than focusing on activities or works, he values our desire to spend time in his presence. He asks us simply to come and rest in that presence.

I’m thankful that God is with us in all circumstances. When I walk through a colourful, fragrant garden, I find joy in thanking God. While I care for an ill family member, he is present. Even as I grieve, I call out to him to be my strength, hope and comfort. The psalmist wrote, ‘Let the righteous be glad and celebrate before God. Let them rejoice with gladness!’ (Psalm 68:3, CEB).

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for creating us for relationship with you. Your presence with us is a gift beyond measure. Amen
